Swiveling Chairs

A great option for adding extra seating at the home or office that is not only super functional but also very stylish and attractive is the swivel chair. These chairs have evolved over the past few yeas from the boring, gray office chairs we think of as swivel chairs to functional chairs that can appeal to anyone’s sense of style.

There are two basic kinds of swivel chairs; the lighter ones we commonly think of being used in offices and the larger, more cushioned ones that resemble recliners that people often use in the living rooms of their homes, sometimes called swivel recliners. Those are only the basics though, there are also pod chairs, armless chairs and much more.

The office swivel chair is what most people imagine when they think of a chair that swivels. These chairs usually also roll short distances in any office. Say; from the computer desk to the copier located in the same room but on another table. These chairs are generally very simple, they are often black or gray and light-weight.

In recent years, however, there are many such chairs that are not black, gray or simple. Newer office swivel chairs are available in a wide variety of upholstery colors and styles. These chairs can range in price from under $25 to several hundred dollars.

The black and gray "typical" looking varieties tend to be more inexpensive. It seems that we often pay for the color or extra-interesting fabric of a more attractive chair, and more and more people seem willing to pay the extra cost.

The other slightly less common variety of swivel chair is what we'll call the home swivel chair. These are sometimes referred to as recliners, and in fact often do recline. In order to "swivel" most of them are affixed to a broad, round base that sits on the floor. The chair turns 180 degrees from this base. These types of swivel chair do not roll. They are usually much more heavily cushioned and sometimes could be called "overstuffed".

These chairs are available in even more upholstery choices and styles than office swivel chairs. They range in price from one hundred to several hundred with the majority falling into the $400-$800 dollar range. Again, it seems that the more money one is willing to spend, the more interesting and original chair they can buy. Any of the chair options mentioned in this article are available in a multitude of online stores. One only need to type “swivel chair” into any search engine to see a seemingly unending list of options.
